100 Day Song Challenge: Day 13

Linky.

A favourite cover song. (do you know who sang the original?)

Ahaa oh well. I have quite a few that I love, but this one for some reason has a special place in my heart. Can't Help Falling in Love. I do think the original is Elvis Presley's, but I'm not 100% certain.

Today's crack brought to me by taking screencaps of the 1978 Les Miserables movie, and noticing just how little Javert's uniform trousers leave to imagination. I can provide picture evidence. It's not for the faint of heart.

Linky.

A song from any dead artist.

Well then. That's... narrowing things down so much. Hmm. One in Bulgarian and one not. Very different, but.

The latter very, very much in utter enjoyment of having just (and I mean a few hours ago) seen The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Which was hilarious fun, on so many, many levels. And the music was amazing. But mostly it was so much fun. From Armie Hammer somehow folded into a Trabant, which is a TINY car, to amazingly dynamic car races at... 40? 50? km/h. To. Everything about the lead four's dynamics. Pretty much, I'm very very satisfied with this movie, its OT3, and my day today.

May be I won't manage to get to the second Arrow ep for the day, but I suspect I'll survive. And/or watch it in the morning. ;)

Linky.

A song from an artist you are attracted to.

Oh boy. -consults recent youtube history- So in Love - Lara Fabian and Mario Frangoulis. And if you have a question about it (sadly, the clip doesn't show them), the answer is yes.

In other news, I'm finally progressing towards finishing the seasons of Flarrow that I left off in February. Two eps each, that's not bad! I'm determined that I'm actually going to know what [personal profile] kittydesade is talking about in at least some of her panels at Dragon*Con this year. >.> I'm sort of irritated at Arrow, but, oh well.

Linky.

A song from one of your favourite albums. (what is the album?)

Y'all get two, again.
Crash and Burn from Savage Garden's Affirmation, and (Bulgarian) Spasenie - Salvation from the album of the same name (CW: drug use/overdose).

Both albums... were things I played a lot, over and over and over again, during a time when I needed emotional support, and it worked. (Note: drug use was never a thing that I ave struggled with, but I know enough people for whom it was, and is, a real issue...)

STUFF! And things.

Also, it's not even 11 pm on Friday night and I'm falling asleep. I think I'll curl up with Privilege of the Sword and have emotions and then sleep...

Oops, fell asleep last night. Linky.

A childhood memory T.V. theme tune.

You get a full episode of Nu, Pogodi, because can't find just the theme. And, bonus, Pink Panther. Because the Sunday football / politics show was only bearable to me as a kid because there was an episode of Pink Panther most weeks.

Stuff

100 Day Song Challenge:

A song you used to like but now hate.

(Mostly, I listened to the lyrics:) Someone Like You I'm sorry, but if you want the best for you ex, reminding them that you're not over them is the last-- okay, maybe not the last thing to do, but very much down there.

Wednesday Reads: Still adoring reading through Les Miserables and this fic. Also re-reading the Swords of Riverside and SO MANY ALEC AND RICHARD EMOTIONS. SO MANY EMOTIONS, HELP!

... pretty tame week, new reading-wise. Oh well.

One of your favourite songs.

Oh boy. Let's go with Imagine. But there are many more.

/gets distracted by Alfie Boe on the way to that link

Alfie Boe is a distraction today. Including the option of maybe getting to watch him live, depending on a thousand things, circa New Year on Broadway...

We'll see.

Linky.

A novelty song.

AHAHAHAA What Does the Fox Say because reasons. (Will you communicate by mo-o-o-orse...)

Today has been brought by frustrating day at work and finishing the lovely 1978 film of Les Miserables. I have to finish both French versions, but this one seems definitely the best of the English language ones I've seen so far.

Doing two, because I missed yesterday because travel! Mmm getting to breathe some cleaner air up in the Balkan mountains, though. (Also, apparently my phone can survive a brief unintended dunking in a bathtub. Good to know, though I don't want to do it again...)

Anyway. Link to the challenge again.

A song you can remember you parents listening to.

I'm putting three here, because.

My mum: Non, je ne regrette rien

My father: Caribe

My stepdad, because I GREW UP ON BEATLES AND IT WAS HIS FAULT, Let It Be.

A song a friend likes but you don't.

Not necessarily a particular friend, but there are times when I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't like it... and I can't stand it. Blue.

Now, nap. And then probably something more Les Mis related. Because might as well ride the tidal wave, right?

Day three

100 Day Song Challenge

A song that reminds you of a night out. (when was it and where?)

... so many options, there. But I'll go with Smooth. Because I love love love the song, and it WAS out around the time of my high school graduation, when there were nights out.

Also, I quite enjoyed reading this list of beautiful sentences in literature. Only, for you lovelies out there who might end up being UNHAPPY, the last one is by Cassandra Clare. So click only with that in mind.

In other fun news, I was supposed to have left for the mountains for a couple of days with the boy and the boys' parents. (Since my mum and her partner are off camping elsewhere.) Which would have been a thing, I'd have been up in the cool clean air... if the boy hadn't blatantly ignored what I'd told him about when to come pick me up from work, because the main road from that side of the city towards the center, and by extension the bus station, is under repairs and the traffic jam is horrible. No, he showed up twenty minutes later. We saw the bus as it left the bus station, but...
Oh well. Traveling tomorrow in the morning.

100 Day Song Challenge

The challenge.

A song from the first album you ever bought. (what was the album?)

... I have genuinely no idea what the first album I bought was. So I'm going to see if I can go with a fairy tale narration on a record (The wolf and the seven young kids) (HUH, that's a Grimm tale...) Yes, there is a video of one of the memorable songs.

Look, it's the best I can come up with for first album.

Meme

In an attempt to get back into the habit of posting here a bit more, I'll try to do the 100 day song challenge! I will be AFK for some days, so it might be a little choppy, sometimes, but. Better try and fail than not try at all?

So, first one.

A song you know all the lyrics to.

I'll take Amit's example and do one song in English, and one in Bulgarian, because why not?

Savage Garden: Crash and Burn and a song from an oldish Bulgarian movie (not using the original film video, because somewhat out of context character suicide, though I can link, if anyone wants black and white footage.)

Also, just because, Wednesday Reads notes: I've discovered that Les Miserables is actually kind of lovely to read in French. And my French is really not quite on the level for me to expect reading to be pleasing. Who'd have thought? And, on that note, Javert/Valjean fic rec, new chapter will likely be coming up tomorrow.
Other things: I am enjoying the Lunar Chronicles, even if a lot of the characters are teenagers and augh... Also, have started re-reading the Wheel of Time books, which got interrupted by re-reading the Swords of Riverside because a friend inhaled the first two books and a slew of the short stories, so clearly I needed a refresher...
Brandon Sanderson's Firefight reminded me that I kind of like his main character a lot, and had me wondering why I took so long to start reading, though [personal profile] starflarker's reaction to the end of Steelheart might be a clue. I don't honestly remember.
... oh, and I love love love the Young Wizards series. Surprising exactly nobody.
And also A Darker Shade of Magic, a relatively new fantasy (first book of... series) by V. E. Schwab. Lovely worldbuilding, and, well. Characters intensity, I like.
A few lovely things I'm looking forward to are coming out in the fall, as always.
